Humanity’s progress, particularly since the 19th century, has been mainly the result of our ability to extract and develop the natural resources that Earth has in abundance. The water we drink, the food we eat, and the materials we harvest come from this one finite resource we call Earth.
As modern Humans, living in a growing fast-paced world, we can sometimes forget that we too are apart of the same nature that makes up our earth. As part of nature, just like every other species on this planet, we need healthy and strong ecosystems to survive. As science has come to verify, strong Ecosystems help to buffer and regulate everything from weather and climate to food production. Humanity has only just started to understand the complex and interconnected systems that dramatically affect nature, but one thing is for sure, our ability to exist here on earth depends on them.
What can we do to help these ecosystems?
At Wilding Wallbeds, we starting asking ourselves this question well before it was a buzz topic. Wilding committed early on to refine its relationships and processes to minimize our impact on the environment. As new information, equipment and technology became available, Wilding has invested large sums of time and capital into incorporating them and continues to do so.

Partners Who Care About the Environment
As a furniture manufacturer Wilding recognized that in order to grow they would need to partner with providers that could offer sustainable resourcing. The future of all manufacturing lies in the ability to obtain the raw materials needed to produce a product. The only way to guarantee those raw materials is through that same responsible sustainable resourcing.The mills that Wilding choose to work with had to be extremely sensitive to the environment. The days of Clear cutting without regard for its effects had to be a thing of the past. To solve this problem Wilding turned to America’s leading distributor of hardwood lumber, specialty softwoods, and decorative paneling/solid surface. Sierra Forest Product delivered the service, professionalism and transparency that Wilding Wallbeds was looking for. When it came to environmental responsibility Sierra also believed action spoke louder than words. They source woodworking materials that are FSC® certified, ECC, CARB and LEED compliant, and their products have won several environmental awards. The modern mills use several techniques to minimize ecosystem impact by clearing out old growth and leaving the young growth to mature, they can cycle through the same forest over and over. This allows lumber to be replenished and the need for large area clear cutting diminishes.
To bring together the materials and the construction Wilding wallbeds built a state of the art facility in beautiful southern Utah at the edge of the mojave desert. To run that facility and equipment takes a significant mount energy. To help buffer the amount of energy and to take advantage of all this mojave desert sun Wilding installed a large solar panel system. Greatly reducing its carbon footprint and cutting into the overhead cost of running the facility. On top of the solar panel upgrades new high efficiency lighting became available that once installed enabled Wilding to cut its light-energy consumption in half.
Inside the facility, care is taken to minimize waste in all areas of production. As the systems of production have become more and more refined, the amount of waste and “drop cuts” have been drastically reduced. With the waste that is created Wilding sought out a several solutions. By creating a relationship with a local organization Wilding was able arrange that all lumber waste to be used for mulching purposes. This goes to the beautification and landscaping of our local environment. The drop cuts from the ply core materials are also recut and repurposed for the construction of pallets and shipping uses.
Reclaiming Finishing Solvents
The state of art finishing area is equipped with Four large spray booths. Each uses large fans to recycle air through banks of filtration systems to clean the air before and after it leaves the building. In addition Wilding researched and invested in a solvent reclaiming system for their finishing area. The Ecopure SR30V solvent recycler gave Wilding the ability to reclaim 95% of the excess solvents used in the finishing process and reuse them over and over as cleaners.
In the modern culture it’s become the norm to read the phrases like “go green”. Its seems like all those idealistic goals we have for a sustainable future are right there within our grasp but to truly make a difference it take time and grit. The saying “It isn’t a sprint, it’s marathon.” comes to mind. The practices and processes that we use at WIlding Wallbeds are just the beginning. It’s our commitment to the fight for a future that is sustainable and clean for everyone that we believe makes a difference. We feel that it’s the only way we can continue to do what we love.
At Wilding Wallbeds, we understand that the forest provides us our living. We believe in using, but no abusing what’s there. These mills that we work with are extremely sensitive to the environment and what they do is they cut the old growth and leave the young to grow back. And then they won’t revisit that portion of the forest for maybe 15 or 20 years. Here on our manufacturing facility we have installed solar panels that help fire the energy that we use within the building. There’s a lot of fall off so as we’re cutting boards there are strips that are falling off. That does not go into the landfill here. We gather that and we take that to a reuse area and they grind it up for mulch. We’re thinking about the environment on both ends.
