Murphy beds all require some level of installation and setup on-site, so what should you expect when your Murphy Bed is delivered and it’s time to start assembling it? From unpacking the components to securing the bed to the wall, It’s important to understand the process and prepare for the necessary steps.

How to Assemble a Murphy Bed

Murphy beds are a large, heavy piece of furniture. Because of the inherent size and weight, all of our Murphy beds and wall beds all ship disassembled. This means that it will need to be assembled in the room once it arrives. All Murphy beds and wall beds also create a lot of torque as the mechanism assists with lifting and lowering. This means that it is critical that the bed is properly attached to the wall. This is done by running screws through L brackets into the studs in the wall.

Using the provided mounting brackets, the frame is then attached to the wall, which requires measuring and leveling to ensure proper alignment. Once the frame is mounted, the bed’s mechanisms—such as the lifting system and mattress support—are installed. The final steps involve securing the mattress platform and making any necessary adjustments for a perfect fit.

Each bed comes with instructions that show how to properly assemble and install it. Following the instructions carefully is important to the safety of the occupants as well as the Murphy bed. 

Who should complete the Installation?

Installation should be completed by a competent handy person. On the residential side of Wilding Wallbeds, roughly 50% of our beds are installed by the homeowner, the other half are installed by a hired handyman or cabinet installer. This shows that you don’t need to be a Murphy bed expert; most importantly, you need to be able to accurately locate the supports in the wall and securely mount the bed. 

In many cases, a contractor, builder, or someone else associated with the project is able to handle the installation. In other cases, it is a good idea to hire a 3^rd party installer to make sure it is done correctly and safely.
