Wilding Wallbeds, how it all began...
| In 1995 the Wilding Family was focused on building custom furniture out of a small shop attached to a two car Garage. Bob, Dennis and Dan were working for furniture companies and would frequently have customers looking for a piece of furniture to fit some specific need that they just could not find. Very frequently the customers would ask to have the Wilding Family build it for them. For Several years the bulk of the business included Custom Bookcases, TV cabinets, Wardrobes or other custom pieces of furniture. | | | | In 1997, one such customer requested a Murphy Bed. Bob researched Murphy Beds and located a Kit, produced by Create-a-Bed. The Wilding Family used that kit and produced their very first Wilding Wallbed, which is still in use today. The Customer was so impressed with the Quality of Wood, and Craftsmanship that they showed it off to all neighbors, who were equally impressed. Several of these neighbors proceeded to order their very own Wilding Wallbed. For several years the business grew by word of mouth. |
| | | One evening Bob was having dinner at a friend's house who had purchased a Murphy Bed from them. He asked Bob if he had ever seen Murphy Beds on the Internet, and suggested that it might be a good idea to put the Wilding's Murphy bed online. Over the next few months the Wilding family researched the Internet, and made a determination that they would develop a web site to advertise nation wide. After locating a very talented web site designer, Chuck Mullenkompf, WallbedsByWilding.com was born in September 1997. The morning after the site went live, the first sale over the Internet was made to a customer in Alabama. | | | | Wall beds By Wilding grew quickly. Over the Next few months the Wilding family expanded the little shop space into a 2500 sq. ft. shop. A few short months later plans for additional shops were under way, including one immediately behind Dennis's home. It wasn't long before it was apparent that a much larger facility would be necessary. A piece of property was searched out and a new 13,000 sq. ft. production facility was built. Only one year later, a 14,000 square foot addition was added to that facility. With each expansion, bigger and better machinery was purchased to help increase production time and quality. Each expansion required additional employees too. Today the company continues to grow at an amazing rate. Each addition produces additional challenges and opportunities. |
