1. Why Buy a Wilding Wallbed?

To put it very simply, price, quality, selection and a tradition of reliability. We have been building and shipping Wallbeds across the United States and internationally for more than 15 years. You can simply count on us. We do what we say we'll do when we say we'll do it and we have the experience to get your Wallbed to you in perfect condition. We are the manufacturer, so pricing is direct, saving you thousands of dollars on comparable products. We offer a greater selection of styles, wood types, color choices, cabinet selections and Home Office options than any other Wallbed or Murphy bed manufacturer or retailer. If innovation is interesting to you, we are and have been the industry leader in every major measurable way. We drive the industry in style, design and functional innovation. We recently designed the first Bunk Bed Wall Bed in the industry. We were the first to design and build the "Hidden Locking Leg", the Solid wood bed face, and the drop down table just to mention a few. We offer both Vertical and Side Mount Wallbeds in nearly every style we build. We are frequently imitated (copied) but we are never duplicated. We also have the ability to custom size our cabinetry to fit your available space. For home office purchases we design the room and function for you according to your specific needs, and communicate the design to you in the form of written quotes as well as PDF drawings for you to review. I am absolutely confident that there is not a better value available for your hard earned dollar. Our construction techniques and hardware insure you'll own your Wilding Wallbed for a life time. Our company Vision Statement is: Saving space...beautifully, with quality and innovation, one customer at a time. You are certainly not a number to us, and your experience from order through installation will be a pleasant, helpful and informative experience. We look forward to working with you!

2. Why Furniture Grade Ply Wood?

Furniture Grade ply wood is actually seven layers of solid wood combined to make an extremely durable product. During the production of Furniture Grade Ply wood, the center piece of solid wood in laid in place with the grain running vertical, a layer is then added to the top and bottom of this center layer, but the grain runs side to side. The next two layers are placed, one on top and one on the bottom where the wood grain again runs vertical on both of these pieces. These five layers of solid wood are constructed in this "cross graining" procedure to eliminate bowing or warping problems that can occur when wood is exposed to dry or humid conditions. The last two layers are the Oak, Alder, Maple, Cherry or Mahogany wood that is the actual surface of your product. The glue used to bond these seven layers together is a formaldehyde free product. Formaldehyde is a known cancer causer. We don't want to expose either our customers or our employees to an inferior product using formaldehyde based glues. Just try and find that level of concern for quality and health with any of our competitors. Furniture Grade Ply wood is more expensive and well worth the investment. I think it's important to know that the furniture grade ply wood that we use is actually engineered specifically for Wilding Wallbeds. We've found, over the years of constructing Wallbeds, it is critical for quality and durability to have this furniture grade ply wood built to our specifications. When other companies don't make a big deal about telling you that they use Furniture Grade ply wood, it' s because they are trying to cut corners and cost.

3. Why not Particle Board, MDF or HDF?

Particle Board, MDF and HDF are all made of sawdust. The only difference between Particle board, MDF or HDF is the size of the sawdust particle used.

  • Particle board: larger sawdust chips
  • MDF: Medium Density Fiberboard
  • HDF: High Density Fiberboard

The saw dust is mixed with formaldehyde based glues that bind the particles together under pressure. They literally lay the particles onto a flat surface and smash them into a dimensional pile. After the particle board is set, or dry, then the actual wood surface or vinyl wrap is applied to both sides. Particle board is known in the industry as being inferior to solid wood. There is not a single professional in the industry that would indicate otherwise. When Particle board is exposed to moisture or humidity, the integrity of the bond diminishes, in other words, it crumbles. Another concern is the weight of a Wallbed. As the wallbed moves up and down, there is considerable weight transference. With particle board, it's just a matter of time until it fails, or crumbles. Last major concern is the challenged ability of particle board to hold a screw. I think most of us are familiar with this. As a screw is driven into particle board, there is nothing solid for the threads to hold onto. If the screw is over tightened, it strips out. As the screw is exposed to time and changing temperatures or humidic conditions it loosens. We just don't want this lack of quality to bear the name Wilding Wallbeds and we're sure you don't either. That's why we won't use particle board.

4. Why Double Side Boards?

1 1/2" Side Boards with Solid Hardwood Front

1 1/2" Side Boards with Solid Hardwood Front

In our Gallery Series products, some of the reason for the increased price is that we use a double thickness in our Side Boards. Besides the obvious fact that a double thickness produces greater weight bearing capacity and durability, it also give us the ability to use a Solid wood front edge that we can then contour or put greater detail into. This simply produces a prettier piece. We understand that you will look at the face of the Wallbed for more hours than you will sleep in it. We think that the improved beauty is worth the difference. I am unaware of any competitor who currently uses the Double Side Board construction technique.

6. Why Dual Locking Legs?

Dual Locking Legs

Dual Locking Legs

Safety in the home is always a major concern as we build any product. The Dual Locking Leg system does just what it sounds like. Both legs physically lock the Wall Bed into the upright position. This provides an added measure of safety in the home. Children have a tendency to climb and hang on things. If they try to climb or hang on the face of the bed, it's locked in the upright position and can not come down on them. If you live in an area more prone to earth quakes, the locking legs provide greater security as well. Some of our competitors use this product but the bulk of them use a "static" system meaning the Wallbed is held in place using static pressure from the spring or piston system. The safest in the industry is without question the Dual Locking Leg system. You'll find this system on all of our HomeFront and Gallery Series products.

7. Tell me more about your Piston Lift Mechanism

Piston Lift Mechanism

Piston Lift Mechanism

Our Piston Lift System is used both residentially and commercially in many Hotel chains, Motel chains, Hospitals and thousands of sleep study labs all over the United States. They have a life time warranty (excluding abuse). Occasionally someone compares our pistons to the gas pistons in the back of an SUV. The fact is that the company that produces the pistons for the car industry is the same company that produces the pistons for our Wallbeds. We are all familiar with the pistons in a car's lift gate that has lost its ability to lift the gate. The reason this does not occur in a Wallbed is that your car is exposed to extremes in temperature change that the Wallbed never is. In the morning the interior of your car can be well below freezing and in the afternoon it can be well above 100 degrees. In your home, it's uncommon for the temperature to change even ten degrees in a month. With fifteen years experience using the pistons for Wallbed construction, we have never seen even one single piston loose its ability to lift the Wallbed. Our Piston Lift mechanism has a "multi positioning plate". This multi positioning plate is exclusive to Wilding Wallbeds, this give us the ability to change the amount of weight that the piston will lift. You can't get that kind of flexibility out of the competition!

8. Tell me more about your Spring Lift Mechanism

Spring Lift Mechanism

Spring Lift Mechanism

Our Spring Lift Mechanism has been used both residentially and commercially for decades. I'm sure you are familiar with the Murphy Bed brand. This is actually a "Murphy Bed" lift mechanism that is incorporated into a Wilding Wallbed. This unit has been weight tested to 2000 lbs. and is ISO 9000 compliant. Those of you who are looking for an ISO 9000 product (fire houses, hotels and hospitals) will recognize the value and performance of this unit. Our Spring lift system has a life time guaranty (excluding abuse). Our Spring system has multiple "ports" for spring attachment which gives us the ability to adjust the weight lifting capacity of the spring system.

9. How do you feel about customer service?

If our Product doesn't just jump off of the monitor as being a significantly better quality and value for your dollar, then we can prove our value to you through our customer service as well. You will find more knowledgeable, understanding, creative, professional service with Wilding Wallbeds than any other Wallbed company in the nation. We provide you with video instruction, printed instructions and provide "On Phone" directions when needed. This may not be that important to you right now, but when our competitor ships you a product and something is wrong, you'll then agree that something is terribly wrong. We have personally been out to our competitors customers to fix a problem that they wouldn't help their very own customer with so many times we've lost count. If a problem occurs with our product you'll find very capable, compassionate and effective help on the other end of the phone. You know, solutions rather than excuses. What is peace of mind worth when you're purchasing over the internet? I happen to think it's extremely valuable! Our on line guaranty speaks for it's self. Who else in the industry provides a 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTY? Who else tells you that you can return the product anytime within the 30 day window for any reason and pay the shipping back? That in and of it's self has brought peace of mind to thousands of Wilding Wallbeds customers. We know with out a doubt that you'll see in person a product that looks even better than it did on line. No one can match the Wilding Wallbed customer service!

10. What about your wood finishes?

I know that I've been a victim of seeing something on line that looked pretty good but when I got it at home, it was as if something went wrong...you know the restaurant scenario, where the photo in the menu doesn't at all look like what you got? Our product finish is simply the best in the industry. Your product shows up at your home looking better than it looked on line. The multi step finishing process creates an extremely tough and durable beauty that will bring a lifetime of pleasure. It's smooth and beautiful and is exactly what you hope it will be. We even provide wood color samples that we mail directly to you.

11. Tell me about your drawer construction.

Dove-tailed solid wood drawer boxes

Dove-tailed solid wood drawer boxes

Fully captured drawer box bottoms

Fully captured drawer box bottoms

In our Gallery Series Products, we begin by using Solid Wood, this fact alone separates us from all of our competitors. Next, we dove tail all four corners of the drawer. Dove Tailing (see photo above) is a process where the corners of the drawers are literally interlocked with each other using a wood joining process where wedge shaped pieces are cut alternately so that the two pieces allow each other to interlock. This produces drawer strength that is unequaled. These dove tailed drawer sides are then glued together providing additional security. If our competitors don't brag about Dove Tailed drawers, it's because they don't do them. Next, we "insert" the drawer bottom into all four sides of the drawer. The final result is a drawer so strong that I can actually stand on the drawer bottom and it supports me without breaking.

We've been in the industry long enough to truly understand the value of dove tailed drawers. If we have any competition left, this is where everyone else is left in the dust. We insert the drawer bottom, which is real wood, into all four sides of our drawer. Our competitors will just staple the bottom on the drawer. The problem is one too many items in the drawer and the drawer bottom falls off. Have you ever experienced that? Once the drawer is broken, the cabinet is useless. Our drawers are built to last a life time. It tells you a lot about a company when they don't cut corners even in their drawer boxes. Last, we use Full extension Blum Slow Close hardware. These glides are the best in the industry. The best for durability and weight bearing. They beat the old wood on wood glides too. Remember, we intend these to last you a lifetime, so we build them that way. If our competitors aren't talking about these, it's because they don't use them.

Our HomeFront and Studio series products have ply wood drawers with dadoed front and back corners. The drawer bottom is a "plant on" with European drawer glides.

12. What about your Cabinet construction?

Dado and Rabbet joint cabinet construction

Dado and Rabbet joint cabinet construction

Just like the "uni-body" construction that the car industry uses for automobile frames, we use this same concept in our cabinetry. What I mean by that is that we fully insert the cabinet back into the cabinet. By fully inserting the cabinet back, it significantly decreases the "Racking" problem so common with cabinets. Racking occurs when your floor is not perfectly level, as you place a large piece of wood furniture on your floor you will notice that the drawers or doors are crooked in the hole they were meant to fit in. The fully inserted cabinet back produces significant strength to help reduce or eliminate entirely the problem with "Racking". Next, we Dado all of the permanent shelves. In each of our cabinets, we have three permanent shelves one at the top, one at the bottom and one in the center of the cabinet. This, again, produces greater strength in the cabinet. To cut corners, our competitors will "Butt joint" these pieces. One significant jolt and the cabinet will break. We also use solid wood trim on all of our wood products. This allows detail on the face of the cabinet that the European style cabinets don't have. The solid wood trim also strengthens the cabinet. If there is a short cut to take, we will avoid it. What we are concerned with is building a product that will stand the day to day use for as long as you want to keep it.

13. Tell me about your door hardware.

We use the 110 degree European hinges on all of our doors. If you happen to choose one of our Gallery Series products, then we add the Blum soft close glides and soft close hinges so that the door can't slam shut. We like the looks of the cabinet better when you can't see the door hinges. The European hinges provide a tremendous ability to adjust the door in the space it was intended to fit. If you have a floor that is unlevel and the cabinet racks, this allows you to adjust the fit of the door on the cabinet so that everything hangs straight. This is a little detail that many companies miss. We want you to love the look and love the function of our products this just helps us accomplish that.

14. How difficult is it to install your Wallbed?

We have spent decades listening to suggestions and implementing ideas from our customers about how to make this a very simple process. I'm happy to say, we've succeeded! In all of our HomeFront and Gallery Series Wallbeds, all of the hardware, other than the pistons, is already attached to the unit. The legs hinges cam fittings and cam posts, pivot points, bumpers and piston ball heads are already in place. Installation consists of connecting the major components to each other, clicking the pistons into place and standing the unit up. We even perform any crown molding that comes with your Wallbed. We provide easy to understand printed instructions with each Wallbed and we back that up with a 13 minute long on-line video showing us put one together. Our customers are regular people. Our unit has been simplified to the point that we might get one phone call a week to clarify a process, and we are there on the phone to answer that question. Our Piston system products are easier and quicker to install than any other unit on the market. Just simply follow the instructions. Some of the reason that our Studio Series products are less money is that there has been less time spent at tour production facility pre-assembling the product. There is an advantage and a disadvantage associated with this. The disadvantage is that it takes longer to install than our HomeFront or Gallery Series products, but because it arrives in smaller pieces, it is easier to carry into a tight room and the pieces being smaller are lighter and easier to maneuver. So, when it comes to installing your Wallbed, we provide all of the technical help needed to have a successful experience. We hear it over and over again after the installation, that "it was more simple than expected" and that our "printed and video explanations were extremely easy to understand and to follow".
